Kevin Durant, James Harden see ‘elite’ Kyrie Irving in first Nets practice back

When Kyrie Irving returned to Nets practice Wednesday, James Harden and Kevin Durant linked back up with the missing piece of the Big 3 and team overall.

After close to three months without Irving at practice, the first day back did not miss a beat.

“Like Kyrie,” Harden said with a laugh when asked about how Irving looked in the Wednesday practice. “Elite.”

“It’s the same Kyrie,” Harden added. “We’re just happy to have him back. We’ve got to get him on the court and get this thing going.”

Durant echoed Harden’s sentiments.

“He looked great,” Durant said. “He wants to probably play a little bit more before he gets into game, but he looked great to me.”

While Irving goes through a ramp up following the layoff and a recent stint in health and safety protocols — Steve Nash said that the process would likely take a week or two before he plays in one of Brooklyn’s road games — Durant has no concerns about his fellow star teammate’s ability to hit the ground running.

“I mean, have you watched him play? He’s a master,” Durant said of Irving, who will play for the Nets on a part-time basis. “He can score 60%, 70% of his shots if you don’t guard him. He’s a high-IQ player. So it’s just a matter of him just getting his legs up under him and his wind up under him. And for us, we’re going to run plays for him. We’re going to try to look for him and we play team basketball. But he can adapt and do anything out there, so we don’t worry about him.”
