Who’s Playing

Pepperdine @ San Diego

Current Records: Pepperdine 6-15; San Diego 11-9

What to Know

The San Diego Toreros will be returning home after a three-game road trip. San Diego and the Pepperdine Waves will face off in a West Coast battle at 10:30 p.m. ET Thursday at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Toreros are out to keep their four-game home win streak alive.

It was close but no cigar for San Diego as they fell 78-74 to the Santa Clara Broncos on Monday. Guard Jase Townsend had a pretty forgettable game, finishing with ten points on 4-for-14 shooting in his 28 minutes on the court.

Meanwhile, a win for Pepperdine just wasn’t in the stars on Saturday as the squad never even grasped a temporary lead. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unfortunate 71-45 punch to the gut against the San Francisco Dons. Pepperdine was surely aware of their 13.5-point disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result. Pepperdine’s loss came about despite a quality game from center Carson Basham, who had 11 points in addition to eight boards. Basham had some trouble finding his footing against the Loyola Marymount Lions last week, so this was a step in the right direction.

San Diego is the favorite in this one, with an expected 7.5-point margin of victory. They might be worth taking a chance on against the spread as they are currently on a four-game streak of ATS wins.

The losses put the Toreros at 11-9 and the Waves at 6-15. A couple stats to keep an eye on: San Diego is stumbling into the matchup with the 46th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 11.4 on average. Pepperdine has experienced some struggles of their own as they are sixth worst in college basketball in turnovers per game, with 15.5 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
